Departmental
Objectives and Strategy
Department managers are often lumbered with a set of
ambiguous definitions such as corporate vision, business objectives
and strategies and they have to use their magic to find their department's
objectives and work out the necessary strategy to achieve them.
This is not an easy task and an expert consultant's assistance is
always valuable in achieving these objectives.
V.R.Dis would be pleased
to offer its services in the following and any other related areas:
- Setting departments objectives based on
overall business objectives - Careful
analysis of the corporate vision, objectives and strategies and
finding the proportional effect of the department's contribution
towards corporate achievements. This, in conjunction with the
department's resources, e.g. OPEX, number of staff, skill sets,
competency levels, etc. are the basis for a 'SMART' objective
setting process.
- Deciding on the strategy for achieving defined
objectives - Having a set of objectives
for the department is not the end of the road, we need to run
the whole operation in a certain direction to achieve these objectives.
We may need to change our direction. We may have to sacrifice
some of our departmental products. At this stage we will be required
to use 'Pareto' and 'S.W.O.T' analysis to find a suitable strategy
for our operation.
- Performance monitoring, measurement and
improvement - How do we know that we
are going to achieve our objectives at the end of the defined
period? We need to set some checkpoint intervals, and define KPIs
and their measurement mechanism. We also need to have a process
for 'Cause and effect' analysis of KPIs at each checkpoint and
to be able to take appropriate correction action when and if necessary.
