Voice Over IP (VoIP)
This is an exciting new technology currently being introduced to the business world at large,
reflecting the transformation of the the telecommunication industry.
VoIP, also referred to as IP telephony allows the usage of a company's telephone voice activity to be transferred
over any IP network, such at the company network and the Internet (the defacto global WAN for IT services). Unlike previous technologies VoIP comes with
complete QoS support, ensuring constant standard quality voice. a VoIP telephone system meets all the advantages
and capabilities offered by traditional PBX systems as well as the following:
- Integrated voice and data network - Allows more standardisation and cost reduction in terms of equipment purchase,
maintenance and configuration.
- Unified messaging - A one stop method for integrating email, voice mail and fax messages. For example
having your voice mail emailed to you as a sound file attachment.
- Cost saving - By using public IP based networks for carrying voice traffic a company can
make large savings for national and international calls.
- Backward Compatibility - VoIP provides seamless integration with traditional circuit switched telephone networks
through the use of a gateway allowing for incremental deployment where necessary.
- The long run benefits of VoIP include support for multimedia and multi-service applications, something which today's
telephone system can't compete with.
V.R.Dis Consulting VoIP solution consists of an analysis of a
company's current data and telephone networks for deciding on the feasibility of their integration.
This analysis mainly looks at the bandwidth usage pattern of the company and the QoS that can be guaranteed for
voice traffic. Upon a successful analysis Cisco VoIP telephone handsets will be deployed at each desk. All other tasks such as a VoIP
server configuration will be done outside at a provider's premises, making the whole operation very transparent
to the final user.
